About The Book
Brian can Find a lost child or a wanted criminal, but when his secret gets out, even Nick’s skills and connections may not be enough to keep them safe.
Brian Kerr is now free of his dangerous boss and his domineering brother. He’s eager to start using his psychic Finding talent to help people, if he can figure out how to do that safely. His dyslexia, and his tendency to act simpleminded under stress, make building his new life a daunting challenge. And while his not-quite-boyfriend, Nick, is willing to support him, in bed and out of it, Brian doesn’t want to lean on Nick. If their relationship is going anywhere, he has to be a full partner and handle his own problems.
Nick Rugo’s walking a tightrope instead of settling into the ordinary cop’s life he’d hoped for. He’s hiding too many things from too many people. He has told professional and unprofessional lies that will come back to haunt him. Now, with Brian determined to start Finding again, he’s not sure he can protect the man he cares for. If all that wasn’t enough to make him start punching walls, he also has a suspicion that Brian’s brother Damon and sister Lori may be out there, lurking, ready to complicate their lives.
The Review
I’m not even going to attempt to tell you everything about this novel. Instead, I’ll focus on Nick and Brian their complicated relationship. The novel is complex, dealing with each and every character’s personality and problems.
Nick Rugo and Brain Kerr, along with Lugger, have finally found time to settle down. Their relationship is still fragile as Brian deals with his physic ability to “Find”. The ability to find causes great strains on the relationship when Brian needs to locate a missing mother of three. Mistakes are made when Nick tries to calm Brian’s stress over the need to find this women. Nick gets a fellow officer to help him, and from that action, things snowball and Brian’s secret is out to the MPD.
The MPD has no understanding of what all Brians ability entails, and the overuse of it takes Brian to the brink of death. Having enough to deal with, along with the guilt from the situation, Nick has another problem – Damon is back to cause chaos once again.
Now Nick is alone and can only hope that he can come up with a way to find Brian. Lucky for Nick, he as a long time friend in Charlie, who comes to give him support.
The biggest problem with all this is Damon. Nick wants Damon, the DEA wants Damon and who knows who else. And Damon has everyone under his control, which could lead to death for anyone of them.
The “Tracefinder” series is very complex, with many of its characters caught up in so many issues because of one person – Damon. There’s still the big secret that Brian holds about Lori and a baby that he already fears. Nick needs help dealing with Brian and he really does try. It was good to see Brian get the help that he needed, and the positiveness of changes to come. I like the addition of Charlie too – he understands Nick and gives him support, in more ways than one.
“Changes” has psychological drama, danger, and desperate situations at every turn. It was a real page-turner for me, an outstanding, on-the-edge read. I don’t know how, but somehow Kaje Harper makes this second entry evenmore exciting than the first novel, “Contact”.

Hi, I’m Maryann, I started life in New York, moved to New Hampshire and in 1965 uprooted again to Sacramento, California. Once I retired I moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 2011 and just moved back to Sacramento in March of 2018. My son, his wife and step-daughter flew out to Florida and we road tripped back so they got to see sights they have never seen. New Orleans and the Grand Canyon were the highlights. Now I am back on the west coast again to stay! From a young age Ialways liked to read.
I remember going to the library and reading the “Doctor Dolittle” books by Hugh Lofting. Much later on became a big fan of the classics, Edgar Alan Poe, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and as time went by Agatha Christie, Ray Bradbury and Stephen Kingand many other authors.
My first M/M shifter book I read was written by Jan Irving the “Uncommon Cowboys” series from 2012. She was the first author I ever contacted and sent an email to letting her know how much I liked this series. Sometime along the way I read “Zero to the Bone”by Jane Seville, I think just about everyone has read this book!
As it stands right now I’m really into mysteries, grit, gore and “triggers” don’t bother me. But if a blurb piques my interest I will read the book.
My kindle collection eclectic and over three thousand books and my Audible collection is slowly growing. I have both the kindle and audible apps on my ipod, ipads, and MAC. So there is never an excuse not to be listening or reading.
I joined Goodreads around 2012 and started posting reviews. One day a wonderful lady, Lisa Horan of The Novel Approach, sent me an email to see if I wanted to join her review group. Joining her site was such an eye opener. I got introduce to so many new authors that write for the LGBTQ genre. Needless to say, it was heart breaking when it ended.
But I found a really great site, QRI and it’s right here in Sacramento. Last year at QSAC I actually got to meet Scott Coatsworth, Amy Lane and Jeff Adams.
