About The Book
Awakening aboard a ship far from home, Akari Tatsuro finds himself missing his memories and surrounded by unfamiliar people. He must decide whether to trust them before they discover his secret: he is a telepath in an era when male telepaths are rare and considered a menace to the galaxy.
Does Akari’s forbidden ability hold the key to the lost power of an ancient relic? Guided by unexpected allies, he races against time to control his talents and uncover his past.
Can he harness his powers for good, or will he become the menace the galaxy fears—a worldburner threatening to unleash chaos?
The Review
A young man awakens inside a spaceship with no idea who he is and where he came from.
He learns from one of the crew, Eli, that the outpost he was on exploded and he was the only one left alive. He also learned his name from a tag near him – Akari Tatsuro.
Akari finds out why the outpost exploded, and that he was an experiment. He is telepathic, and uses his gift to read the minds of the people around him, but he keeps it a secret until a police interceptor nearly captures them. Then, in order to save himself and all the others on board, he lets his secret out.
As a telepath, he is considered a danger, and despite using his gift to save the ship and all on her, he is now feared. Eli tries to help him, but the captain decides to make a crown that will keep his abilities muted. His allies are Eli, Nyssa and Ardra.
Now, he has a choice. Wear the crown, or follow Nyssa and Ardra. He chooses to leave.
Of course, nothing goes as expected. After a betrayal and an attack, once more Akari, Nyssa and Ardra are back on the ship. Akari is sent to another planet, where he will be taught to control his telepathy. His teacher, Hieronymus, is also a telepath who teaches other male telepaths how to keep from becoming a weapon.
There are secrets, lies, betrayals and surprises – Warren knows how to keep readers in suspense with nearly nonstop action of what one man can do another. It isn’t pretty.
Five stars.
