About The Book

What does a former assassin do when he’s not out there… well… assassinating? Saving his species from extinction, of course. At least, that’s what Leopold wants to do with every molecule in his body. But the task won’t be fast or easy, and he can’t do it alone.

Enter Mastrodai—a mrrog prince who has absolutely no desire to rule, much to his father’s exasperation. He craves the ability to prove his worth as a mate and to somehow atone for his actions that led to Leopold’s torture at the hands of an enemy. Making humans official would be a good start.

But politics rule no matter what the species, and Mastrodai has to maneuver carefully and risk what he has built to give his mate what he deserves. And when he realizes both he and Leopold have deeper feelings for Alex, one of Mastrodai’s human slave women, he knows his future is out among the stars with his humans, not planet-bound with his kin.

Unfortunately, before they can set their plan into motion, Leopold receives a vision that sends him reeling and questioning everything he knows about himself. A vision he must investigate, back to where he began—Lex, the backwater planet where he spent his early years, and where he swore never to return.

**Trigger Warning: Includes violence throughout, PTSD, a scene of graphic torture, and the start of a consensual MMF relationship.**

The Review

In Legacy, the second installment of the “Saga of the Bold People,” the story is told from Mastrodai’s point of view.

Mastrodai is the Prince of Mragin, and has duties to be performed. He’s had to leave Leo securely protected on board the Nebula. With the Oath of Orlen, Mastrodai knows he’s too far away from Leopold, but he feels that it’s better this way as they’ve already been through so much, and Leo doesn’t need to have his life in danger again.

As Mastrodai is being entertained by Gurrakai and his mate, Thraly, the situation becomes complicated, and he has to control his temper. Faced with both male and female propositions, he stays loyal to Leo.

Mastrodai is questioned in regards to his relationship with Leo, and someone suggests that Leo show off his assassin talents and hunt his own human species. It’s clear that Leo is not welcomed on Mragin – a hard reality for Mastrodai to face. Mastrodai realizes that Mragin may never be home for him again.

Mastrodai also struggles with Leo’s relationship with Alex, but for Leo’s sake, he agrees to have her in their relationship.

Mastrodai and Leopold are awaiting an important decision from the InterGalactic Council.  Leo hopes that the IGC will give humans their dignity and freedom, as they are currently treated like property.

The Prologue gives readers an in-depth look at when and how Mastrodai and Leo first laid eyes on each, after an assassination attempt gone wrong. In Legacy, their relationship grows stronger, dealing with issues of rejection, jealousy, commitment and a powerful physical attraction.

I was a little confused about how their relationship lost some of that deep connection when Leo brings a female, Alex, into their union. It felt like it was all about Leo and what he wanted, and for me, the story lost some of that appeal of the relationship between Mastrodai and Leo. I was satisfied with the MM relationship, but that’s my personal preference.

Still, Legacy offers an entertaining story full of danger, even if it’s not as action packed as Leopold. It takes a deep dive into Leo’s life, and how it’s important for everyone to have their freedom.

There’s a wealth of great supporting characters:  David, Maria, Lania, Raladai, Takjai, Rrelkrrai, Derkugai, Tenia, Raladai and many more.

Legacy is really well written and entertaining, leaving me curious to see what happens in the final book, Resistance.

The Reviewer

Hi, I’m Maryann, I started life in New York, moved to New Hampshire and in 1965 uprooted again to Sacramento, California.  Once I retired I moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 2011 and just moved back to Sacramento in March of 2018.  My son, his wife and step-daughter flew out to Florida and we road tripped back so they got to see sights they have never seen.  New Orleans and the Grand Canyon were the highlights. Now I am back on the west coast again to stay! From a young age Ialways liked to read.

I remember going to the library and reading the “Doctor Dolittle” books by Hugh Lofting. Much later on became a big fan of the classics, Edgar Alan Poe, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and as time went by Agatha Christie, Ray Bradbury and Stephen Kingand many other authors.

My first M/M shifter book I read was written by Jan Irving the “Uncommon Cowboys” series from 2012.  She was the first author I ever contacted and sent an email to letting her know how much I liked this series.  Sometime along the way I read “Zero to the Bone”by Jane Seville, I think just about everyone has read this book!

As it stands right now I’m really into mysteries, grit, gore and “triggers” don’t bother me. But if a blurb piques my interest I will read the book.

My kindle collection eclectic and over three thousand books and my Audible collection is slowly growing.  I have both the kindle and audible apps on my ipod, ipads, and MAC. So there is never an excuse not to be listening or reading.

I joined Goodreads around 2012 and started posting reviews.  One day a wonderful lady, Lisa Horan of The Novel Approach, sent me an email to see if I wanted to join her review group.  Joining her site was such an eye opener.  I got introduce to so many new authors that write for the LGBTQ genre. Needless to say, it was heart breaking when it ended.

But I found a really great site, QRI and it’s right here in Sacramento. Last year at QSAC I actually got to meet Scott Coatsworth, Amy Lane and Jeff Adams.
